Jason Bourne Obituary

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, Jason Erwin Bourne went to be with his Savior. Born on March 1, 1988, in Fairbanks, Jay was the beloved son of Darrell and Martha Bourne, with three adventurous older brothers and one younger sister.
As a child, he was gentle and kind, and carried a simple, undefeatable boyishness into adulthood. With his charismatic charm and sincere interest in others, Jason never met a stranger. He had a thousand best friends from all areas of his life.
Jay touched many lives though his lifelong passion for music, indomitable free spirit, and generous personality. If he had a fault, it was that he cared too much, felt too much. He felt emotions intensely, and expressed them soulfully through his piano, guitar and singing. He cared more about people and relationships than material things, and he'll always be remembered for his big heart, haphazard smile, ready laughter, and the personal attention that he gave to everyone in his life. He was always up for any adventure, and especially loved soccer and snowboarding.
Jay had an uncommon depth of personality. He had a big hug for anyone and everyone. With Jay, there were never any pretenses. He always took time to listen and care and was genuinely compassionate and accepting of others. He had a fun-loving warmth and safety about him, which drew children and adults alike. He lived life with open hands, gratefully accepting what was given and freely giving that with which he had been entrusted.
He trusted the Lord completely to provide for his needs, which were often met through family, friends and even strangers. From boyhood, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude for every act of kindness shown him.
Following graduation from Lathrop High School in 2006, Jason completed a Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Discipleship Training School in New Zealand, then led a ministry team in China. He enjoyed traveling, hitchhiking in foreign countries, fearlessly flying by the seat of his single pair of ripped-up blue jeans, and he maintained close, meaningful friendships all over the world.
Jason attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he was pursuing a degree in biology. He was employed as an Emergency Medical Technician, volunteer firefighter and forestry firefighter. He had long-term aspirations for his personal development, starting a business, funding a Roth IRA, and being more disciplined about writing a new song every week.
Jason was deeply loved by his entire immediate and extended family, and he will be greatly missed and always remembered by them: parents, Martha and Darrell; brothers, Chris, Justin and Craig, and his little sister, Andrea; sister-in-law, Cassia, and niece and nephew, Anastasia and Bentley; maternal grandparents, Lew and Erlene Meyers; paternal grandmother, Jean Bourne.
He is also held forever in the hearts of uncles, Doug Bourne, Gale Bourne, Stan Bourne, Rick Bourne, Derek Dickinson and Samuel Wilson and aunts, Vicki Wilson, Marilee Cornforth, Glenna Bourne, Dellie Dickinson, Phyllis Brush, and Tanya Bourne.
He also leaves behind many, many cousins and close friends and was preceded in death by his uncle, Ted Cornforth, and paternal grandfather, Erwin Bourne.
There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, at Friends Church, followed by a potluck dinner, to share memories and celebrate his life. Flowers may be sent to Friends Church at 1485 30th Ave., Fairbanks, AK 99701.
