Norwood Denning Obituary

Norwood Lee “Woody” Denning, 77, of Liberty, MO, went to be with the Lord on January 6, 2011 at home. He was born July 22, 1933 in Angier, North Carolina, the son of Willie and Pauline (Salmon) Denning. His 20-year military career included service in the U.S. Army and Air Force until his retirement as a Technical Sergeant in 1971, having served during both the Korea and Vietnam Wars. After retirement from the Air Force, he enjoyed many years as a private and commercial pilot. He later worked as an area and district manager for Church’s Fried Chicken until retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Liberty Church of the Nazarene, having served as an adult Sunday school teacher and on the church board. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Taipei, Taiwan, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, S.C. Along with his parents, Norwood is preceded in death by two nephews, Tony Seagroves and Christopher Huff. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Rose (Erganian) Denning, of the home; children, Michael L. Denning (Stacy) of Garner, N.C., and Tina E. Creech of Raleigh, N.C.; siblings, Willie R. Denning (Pat) of Wichita Falls, TX, Larry Denning (Sharon) and Barbara Dobson (Eddie) all of Raleigh, N.C., Carolyn Chenoweth (Greg) and Joyce Sargent (Mike) all of Garner, N.C.; two grandchildren, Will and Taylor Creech; ten nieces and nephews in North Carolina, three nephews and one niece in St. Joseph, MO; as well as all of Mary Rose’s family members he enjoyed being near while residing in Missouri the past 23 years. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service celebrating his life at 11:00 am on Monday, January 10th, at the Park Lawn Northland Chapel, 1640 N. Hwy. 291 (I-35 at 291 Highway), Liberty, MO 64068. Burial with military honors will be at the Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, N.C., on January 15, 2011 at noon, with a visitation one hour prior at Montlawn Funeral Home. You may honor Woody’s memory with a donation to Liberty Hospital Hospice, Liberty Church of the Nazarene or the Christopher Huff Memorial Scholarship Fund. Memorial donations may be left in care of the funeral home. Arrangements: Park Lawn Northland Chapel (816) 781-8228.

Norwood "Woody" Denning was my second cousin. I knew him only in my childhood. In reading his life story, we have much in common, such as Vietnam, flying airplanes. I would like to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family members.

We, our whole family were extremely sorry to hear of your loss of your dear husband, Woody. He was a very generous, intelligent thoughtful man before his illness.
