Dr. Donald L. Spanton

Pittsboro

Dr. Donald Leslie Spanton, 85, of Fearrington Village, went to be with the Lord on October 7, 2016.

Don was born in 1930 to the late Edna Fern Spanton and John Leslie Spanton in Rochester, NY.

Don married his beautiful wife Jane in 1956 and they celebrated sixty wonderful years together in 2016. Don served in the U.S. Army in Korea and then in the U.S. Army Reserves for a total of 28 years, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. His education included Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Georgia Tech and lastly, American University for his Ph.D. His professional career included Taylor Instruments, Lockheed Martin, IBM, and the Federal Railroad Administration. When he retired from Meredith College, he was the Head of the Business Department.

Don is survived by his wife Jane; one son Bruce and his wife Cari of Inman, SC; and three daughters: Linda S. Proctor and husband Jeff of Apex, NC, Laura S. Wharton and husband Bayley of Clemmons, NC, and daughter Nancy S. Clemons and husband Ted of Apex, NC. He also has nine grandchildren that will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at one o'clock in the afternoon at the First United Methodist Church Cary, 117 S. Academy Street, Cary, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Don's honor to The Hock Family Pavilion (Duke Hospice Facility), 4023 N. Roxboro Road, Durham, NC 27704.

Arrangements are with Donaldson Funeral Home of Pittsboro, North Carolina.
