Jack Morrison Obituary

Jack Clyde Morrison, age 83 of Bethel went to be with the Lord on November 25, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 13, 1927 in Boston, Mass., to the late Angus and Dolly Morrison. Jack grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He was the oldest of five children. When he was 17, he moved back to Boston and joined the Army to help in the war effort. He was in the Military Police and provided security for the Manhattan Project and the atomic testing done at the Bikini Atoll. After leaving the Army, Jack served off and on in the Merchant Marines for 18 years. He loved the ocean and had many fond memories of all the ports he saw around the world. He moved to Bethel in 1964 and had several jobs mostly as a truck driver. He retired from Petrolane where he drove a bulk truck for 18 years in 1989. Jack was a long time member of the Moose Club in Danbury and the Miamogue Yacht Club in Bridgeport. Some of his happiest memories were of time spent on his boat in Long Island Sound. He was an avid race fan and loved to spend time with his daughter and her family who he lived with. Jack's family would like to acknowledge Bethel Health Care, where he had resided since April, and the excellent care they provided to him. Their compassion and understanding during a difficult time was greatly appreciated. Jack is survived by his sisters, Peggy (Murray) Patterson of Kitchener, Ontario and Shirley (Donald) Laing of Halifax, Nova Scotia; and brothers, Lloyd (Janice) and Raymond (Margie) Morrison of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He is also survived by a son, Jack (Madelaine) LeBlanc of London, Ontario and a daughter, Laila (George) Rudinas of Bethel; his grandchildren, Ann Margaret, Troy and Cory of Ontario and Daniel, Joshua and Kristine of Bethel, CT; and three great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be planned for January. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Danbury VNA. The Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel is handling arrangements. Information and online condolences can be found at www.HullFuneralService.com.
