Christopher Dennis Obituary
Christopher Joseph Dennis 42, son of Robert and Bernadette (Macchiaverna) Dennis and fiancée of Shelley Weinhaus of Waterbury, a longtime resident of Newtown, CT and a current resident of Waterbury, CT, died Monday, August 20, 2012 in St Mary's Hospital after a work related accident. Also known as Wackit - Smasher - CD ,he was the commissioner of the Newtown Men's Softball League, and part of several teams all over New England. He was very well liked in the softball community as attested to in the Facebook page created by friends: Chris Dennis Memorial Softball Tournament. Chris's last at bat was a game winning home run. He and his fiancée Shelley were planning a December wedding. He is already missed by a loving family, parents Robert and Bernadette Macchiaverna Dennis, sister Stephanie and brother Gil Pinto, brothers and sisters-in-law to be, Neal, Shari, Rick, and Laura Weinhaus, Aunts & Uncles, Gale Bassett, Vic and Monica Carrascoso, Martin and Jeanne Dennis, nieces and nephews, Gil Jr., Angie, Jordyn, Jason, Alex, Jared, and young cousins, Gabby, Cameron, Anneliese, Isabella, and Torrey, and many other special cousins, too numerous to mention. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 10 AM in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Friday from 5PM to 8PM. Contributions to the Chris Dennis Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 459, Ridgefield, CT 06877 would be appreciated.

Chris was my best friend. After 11 years no one comes close to replacing him. Chris would drop everything in a second to help me. I really miss just knowing that someone is always there no matter what.

I saw him the day before his passing at a Fantasy Football Draft. He bought Benny and I a beer. He was a fantastic guy. I was on several tournament teams with him. He was always a great guy to play with. I remember riding home from New Jersey with him after he was the best player in a fine tournament. He was all smiles and humble. We won the tourney in an upset and he was great. We listened to his Eagles beat my Giants on the ride. That was in 1999 or more likely 2000. I will continue to keep him in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of Chris' passing. I have so many fond memories of him as a child. I wish I could have known him as an adult. Looking at his picture as an adult, he hasn't changed very much....just all grown up. Love you all and have you on my mind and in my prayers.

I was so sad to hear about this horrible tragedy! I played many softball games on co-ed teams with Chris, and never met a more naturally gifted player. He was also one of the nicest people I ever had the pleasure to meet. The world needs more people like Chris. RIP Chris, you will truly be missed!

Dear Shelley, Bernadette, Steph and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. There is no rhymne or reason. Some people start their journey to heaven earlier than others but it would always hurt losing someone as sweet as Christopher. I am sure that SHorty AKA Thelma is so happy to have her very special boy with her now. They are preparing a place for your entire family. I pray that God's love heals your heart each and every day. My daughter and I met Chris through Shelley, who was my daughter's soccer coach. My daughter nicknamed Chris "Hottie Lamottie" because Shelley used to tell the girls all about him. I think he liked the nickname because after that he started bringing Dunkin Donuts Munchkins to the games for the girls for the ride home on the bus. We were so happy for Shelley and Chris. Shelley always had a smile on her face talking about him, and after the game walking to the bus together, you could see that they were truly meant for each other. We are both in shock as I know all of you are as well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Shelley as well as Chris' family during this extremely difficult time. RIP Chris(Hottie) you will truly be missed.

One of the nicest guys I ever met in 30 years of pick up basketball. Always made me smile even when I tried to be mad at him.
That long range jumper or that running one hander, he was a quite a force on the hoop court as well as the softball field.

Chris was the best neighbor to have. During the snowstorm last year,when we all lost power, he brought over a heater to make sure our 4 yr old was warm. Will be sadly missed. Such a great guy. Big heart.
