Lester "Les" Roy Godwin Jr., 74, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at his residence.

Born November 21, 1935, in Medford, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Lester Roy and Edith (Plain) Godwin.

Mr. Godwin was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Waynesboro. He attended Brown University and was a United States Veteran, having served with the Air Force. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing tennis, being outdoors, mountain biking, sports of any kind, and enjoying life.

Survivors include the love of his life and the mother of his children, Mary Lynn Godwin of Waynesboro; son, Scott Godwin of Waynesboro; daughters, Liesl Godwin of Redondo Beach, California, and Gretel Godwin Crum of San Clemente, California; son, Tom Godwin of Lihue, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jordan and Troy Crum and Samantha Godwin; as well as extended family and close friends.

A celebration of life service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 West Main Street, with Pastor Keith Harris officiating.

A memorial service will follow in San Clemente, California, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro Police Foundation, 250 South Wayne Avenue, Suite 102, Box 3, Waynesboro, VA 22980, City of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation, 416 Port Republic Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Waynesboro Rescue Squad, 201 West Broad Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980.
