Elizabeth Ann Groah

Elizabeth "Ann" Groah, 58, of Fishersville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday morning, September 14, 2010, at Augusta Health in Fishersville, surrounded by her family. She was born in Albemarle County, the daughter of Florence E. Craig of Fishersville and the late Bernard A. Craig.

Ann was a member of Fishersville Baptist Church for more than 35 years. For many years she played the piano at Mount Ed Baptist Church and the organ at Holy Cross Episcopal Church. She was an avid bowler, loved all kinds of music and enjoyed the outdoors.

A beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.

In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Chuck Groah; three daughters, Tina Ann Stewart and her husband, Eric, of Manassas, Julie Elizabeth Doyle of Fishersville, and Kari Leeann Bradshaw and her husband, Hank, of Hubert, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Erika Stewart and Baby Bradshaw, who is due in February. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Fishersville Baptist Church, 1518 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville, conducted by Pastor Steven T. Parker. Burial will follow at Mount Ed Baptist Church Cemetery in Batesville.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Hank Bradshaw, Eric Stewart, Mark Allen, Glen Swisher, Jim Feaganes and Mark Dofflemyer. Ann's Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010, at Fishersville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bosom Buddies, c/o Evelee Wheeler or Virginia Sorrells, 992 Ladd Road, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or to the Building Fund at Mount Ed Baptist Church, P.O. Box 239, Batesville, VA 22924.

I was indeed saddened by the news of your Mother's passing and my heart goes out to you and your family in this time of sorrow. I regret not being able to visit with Ann during her illness but understand she fought the hard fight with grace and courage. May she rest now eternally in the arms of Jesus. And may God comfort you now and give you peace in the days ahead. Blessings to you all. With love, Becky

How sad it was for Petie and I when we read of Ann's homegoing. The times we had growing up together are some of my fondest memories. Though we didnt see each other often we would go right back to that place and laugh about our good times. Not only were you loved by Peite and I but my Mom and Dad , brothers and sisters loved you and your family so much. BIll(Daddy), Mr. and Mrs. Mann must being giving you the biggest hugs in heaven now. Honey, you fought the good fight and now heaven is your home. Our love to Sis, Chuck and the girls. Forever in our Hearts, Petie and Gloria Baber

Chuck, Julie, Kari & Tina,
I am so honored to have become a friend of Ann's. I know you all have heavy hearts right now, but you have such beautiful memories to hold on to. Danny and I both enjoyed all the times we got together for birthdays or family gatherings. Ann, I know you are in Gods loving arms now. You always had a smile and never seemed discouraged or upset that such a terrible illness was placed upon you. We will all miss you but knowing you are in such a better place brings comfort & peace.
God Bless You All and comfort you in this time of sorrow.

No Words can express the extreme sadness I feel at the Passing of My Best Friend Ann. We have known each other since childhood & shared great memories. She was the Strongest most Courageous woman I have ever known. Her Love of people & her caring & compassion was like none I have ever seen. She will be missed by so many & yet I know she suffers no more & is now Happy n Heaven looking down & Loving her Family for Love Never Dies.

Upon hearing the news of Anns passing I find a heavy heart. She was my closest cousin. We had wonderful times coming up together. I will have those good memories forever. The church homecomings at Mt. Ed I always looked forward to because I knew I would get to see and talk to Ann. Maybe knowing Ann is in such a better place helps the heavy heart because that is one thing we know for sure.

No words can express the sadness I feel at the passing of my very best friend. We grew up together in Church & have always been there for each other ever since whether it be to share a laugh or a tear. The most strongest , courageous & Faith Filled person I have ever known who never met a stranger. Her kindness & compassion for others was a trait that stood out. Ann fought to stay with her family to the very end & leaves behind them & many others who came to appreciate her in many ways. She will live on in our memories till we meet again. Our Hearts are breaking, all who knew & loved her. With the foundest of memories she will be terribly missed but we know she is in Heaven with her Daddy & those who have gone before. Till we meet again rest in Peace Ann. Rest in peace.
