Eloise M. Cannon

Eloise Mills Davis Cannon, 87, of Charlottesville, died on Sunday, September 26, 2010, in Waynesboro.

She was born on April 19, 1923, in Caroleen, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Beulah Harrelson Mills.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Mills; and a sister, Margorie Mills Noble; her first husband, Kenneth E. Davis; and her second husband, William L. Cannon.

She graduated from Mars Hill College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlottesville, Virginia, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Eloise volunteered at Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was the secretary for the First Presbyterian Church of Charlottesville for over 30 years.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by one son, Joseph Winfrey Davis and his wife, Susan, of Waynesboro, Virginia; a grandson, Eric C. Davis and his wife, Sarah, and great-granddaughter, Eliza Paige, all of Lynchburg, Virginia; a step-daughter, Joanne C. Dorin and her husband, Dennis, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and their children, Brooks Dorin and Catherine Dorin Black; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the Monticello Memory Gardens with Dr. Lindsay Sadler officiating.

The family suggests that any desired memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
