Elzie Grogg Obituary
Elzie H. Grogg, 85, of Churchville, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at Envoy of Staunton.
He was born November 22, 1923, at Blue Grass, a son of Robert Lee and Ethel Jane (Puffenbarger) Grogg.
Mr. Grogg was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and a charter member of Western Augusta Steam and Gas Tractor Club. He retired from Stanley Furniture Inc. and had worked at the State Highway Department in Highland County, Jim Weaver Paving, Basic-Witz Furniture Company and the United States Forest Service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and collecting antique tools.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and Lacey Grogg.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel May (Teter) Grogg, whom he married on October 29, 1954; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond L. and Teresa B. Grogg of Churchville; a grandson, Robert J. Grogg of Churchville; a sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Nipper of Monterey; an aunt, Dorothy Vann of Virginia Beach; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a special cat, "Tabby Girl".
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell, with the Reverend Ralph Grow and the Reverend Christina Suerdieck officiating. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Pitsenbarger, David Vann, Chad and Tim Teter, Harold Arbogast, Francis Florence, Bert Moyers, Roy Wayne Puffenbarger and Charles Mauzy.
Honorary pallbearers will be Archie Simmons, Harold Clifton, John Nipper, Christopher Moyers, Gib Pullin, John Whitecotton, Fred Moats, Elmer Allanson, Gary Gum, Lloyd Rexrode and Wayne Teter.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Churchville Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 608, Churchville, VA 24421.
