John Thomas Quick Jr.

John Thomas Quick Jr., 75, of Waynesboro, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Born March 16, 1934, in Batesville, he was the son of John Thomas Sr. and Gracie Shiflett Quick.

He was a United States Naval Veteran, a member of American Legion Post 340, a member of Shenandoah Height Baptist Church, retired from the former Waynesboro DuPont Company and was employed by R. R. Donnelley of Harrisonburg prior to his illness.

He enjoyed fishing, camping, working puzzles and going on cruises.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Brandon Quick.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Painter Quick; two sons, Thomas G. Quick, and his wife Kathy, of Craigsville, John M. Quick and his wife, Kerry, of Hayes; a daughter, Penny P. Quick, of Harrisonburg; a sister, Helen Burnett, of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Christina Kraus, John Quick lll, Devin M. Quick, Atasha Richie, McKession Coffey, as well as a number of great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church by Pastor Paul LaPrevotte. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park with military rites provided by American Legion Post 340.

Active pallbearers will be Garnett Weatherholtz, Roy Rexrode, Bill Awkard, Francis Thompson, Warren Sprouse, Jerry Coffey and Bob Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Andrews Sunday School Class of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the General Fund of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church, 901 Shenandoah Avenue, Waynesboro, VA. 22980.
