Louise Quick Obituary
Louise Quick passed away on the morning of July 5th 2025.
Louise was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to Freda Levin and Louis Goldstein. Her parents divorced shortly after her birth and she was raised in large part by her grandmother, Miriam Gross.
Her first marriage to Arthur Levy ended in tragedy when Arthur was killed by a drunk driver; leaving Louise, a young mother with 3 young daughters, a widow at age 33.
After several years of traveling in Europe, she met and then married Bob Quick. Bob brought his daughter, Pamela, from his first marriage to this blended family. They were happily married for nearly 60 years before Bob's death at age 95, in April 2022– quite a feat for a second marriage for both.
Louise is survived by her daughters Miryam Levy of Albuquerque, NM; Susan Lucas of Chevy Chase, MD; Tessa Levy of Denver, CO; Pamela Lister of London, UK; and grandchildren; Justin Lucas and his husband, Chris Boothe of Chicago, IL; Robbie Lister and Larissa Lister, as well as great-grandchildren, Lilah and Amelia Lister, all of London, UK. Louise was preceded in death by her first grandson, Shawn Lucas (2016).
Louise spent her career, first as a legal secretary, and then, following her passion for travel, as a travel agent, planning and helping people design their dream vacations. Her (and Bob's) love of travel took them all over the world; they spent much time in Europe; London, Madrid and Paris were favorites as well as Collioure in the South of France. Before Bob retired, they lived in Germany where they were avid "volksmarchers," a social walking group that encourages people to walk together, build community and enjoy nature. Louise was always very active; she loved the beach, and she and Bob had a house on Chincoteague Island, VA. They decided to give up their house in Chincoteague, when they fell in love with and bought a home in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and for many years would spend part of each year there, taking Spanish lessons and exploring Mexico.
Louise's daughters attribute her long life to her very active lifestyle – she played tennis well into her 70's. But perhaps it was her love of wine; she did enjoy her Pinot Grigio or Rose, not to mention a good scotch! And chocolate and ice cream. I guess you could say she maintained a healthy balance. She was passionate about many things; she cared for her friends and neighbors and was deeply committed to social justice and environmental issues. She loved plants and had quite a green thumb, always marveling when one of her plants sprouted a new "baby."
After years of traveling, she and Bob settled in Chevy Chase where Louise was active with the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation; she served on the pastoral care committee and was always a big part of their annual "white elephant" sale.
When Louise and Bob moved to the Riderwood Retirement Community in 2016, they were happy to find the Unitarian Universalist community here – Louise was on the steering committee almost to the end of her life, she prided herself on helping to find monthly speakers for their meetings and helping distribute the Liberal Lines newsletter. Louise was also involved with the bridge players, opera lovers and at the end was learning new card games.
She never stopped learning and trying new things.
She lived a good long life and she will be missed.
