June Marie (Mella) Wheeler, 76, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Augusta Health in Fishersville.

She was born on May 29, 1934, in Torrington, Connecticut, a daughter of the late Peter and Lena Mella.

She was united in marriage to Lewis B. Wheeler in 1973; they shared a union of 37 years.

As a homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and other games, as well as volunteering her time. She was involved in the Waynesboro Senior Center and served as the Treasurer of the Stuarts Draft Senior Center.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Lewis B. Wheeler Jr. of Richmond; and three daughters, Donna M. Smith, Dawn Becker and Darlene Carter, all of Pennsylvania; as well as her brother, William Mella of Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amber S. Wheeler, Rebecca Marlett, Matthew Smith, Lauren Becker, Christopher Becker, Briana Dohner, Brooke Dohner and Neil Dohner.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, with Pastor Matthew Coiner officiating.

The family will receive friends, prior to the service from 12 until 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
