Martha Shifflett

Martha Ruth Shifflett, 79, of Waynesboro, died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at King's Daughters' Community Health Center in Staunton.

She was born on March 10, 1931, a daughter of Charles Russell and Nancy Smiley Brooks.

She had retired from the Waynesboro Community Hospital with many years of service and previously she had worked at the Daylight Laundry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen R. Shifflett in 2005; her sister, Mary Woodson; and her brothers, Crawford, Claude, Dennis, and Charlie Brooks.

Surviving are her children, Betty Gamble, Landon Shifflett, and Steve Shifflett Jr. and his wife, Lisa, all of Waynesboro; four sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks, Katie Horton, and Lucy Denton; her brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Louise Shifflett; three grandchildren, Amy Jones, Stevie Shifflett III and Christopher Gamble; two great-granddaughters, Alysha Harlow and Khya Williams; special great-grandchildren, Trenton, Brea, and Damien; nieces and nephews.

A service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home by Pastor Bill Watson. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Gamble, Tommy Hensley, Robbie Mawyer, Stevie Shifflett, James Talley, and Stephen Via.

The family received friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 29, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.
