Russell Eugene Wood Sr. Russell Eugene Wood Sr., 78, of Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, went to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at his residence.

He was born on September 18, 1931, a son of the late Irvan Mason Wood and Margaret May Eanes Wood.

He served his country faithfully with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Wood was a member of the Salvation Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Quinten Kersh; three brothers, Hugh Carl "Butch" Wood, Charles Lewis Wood, and Thomas Earl Wood; and one sister, Joyce Irene Wood.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 45 years, Genevieve "Billie" Wood; three sons, Russell E. Wood Jr. and his wife, Cathi, of Verona, Robert W. Allen of North Carolina, and Forrest "Chip" Wood and his wife, Carrah, of Waynesboro; two daughters, Sherri Wood Kersh and her husband, Robert, of South Carolina, and Julie Wood Sheren, his loving caregiver at his home; eight grandchildren, Derrick, Kylene, Genna-Jo, Dustin, Danny, Robbi, Logan, and Adrian; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Irvin Mason Wood Jr., Stuart Randolph, and George Ammonette; seven sisters, Margaret Vallie, Gloria Anne, Jeanette Lee, Kathaleen Faye, Lois Jacqueline, and Alice Marie.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

A service will be conducted 12 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home by Major Bruce Williams. Interment will follow at Augusta Memorial Park with honors conducted by the National Guard.
