V. Christine Snyder STAUNTON

Virginia Christine Snyder, 83, of South Lynnhaven Drive, Staunton, died on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on October 6, 1926, in Augusta County, the daughter of Jesse Elmer Snyder Sr. and Lula Rebecca (Fisher) Snyder.

She was a graduate of Churchville High School and was employed by E.I. DuPont as a spinner operator and trainer for 40 years. Christine enjoyed trout fishing, traveling, and volunteering. Her retirement years were full ones. She served as secretary of the Staunton chapter of AARP, volunteered at the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Augusta Expo, traveled widely, and enjoyed regular get-togethers at the Waynesboro Shoney's with fellow DuPont retirees. She was a member of Jerusalem Chapel United Brethren in Christ Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jesse Snyder Jr. and Roy "Buck" Snyder.

Surviving are a brother, John Snyder of Staunton; seven nieces and nephews, Dr. Jeanne Snyder of Ketchikan, Alaska, Daniel Snyder, Patricia Snyder and James Snyder, both of Staunton, Judith Jenkins of Orlando, Florida, Rick Snyder of Churchville and Ben Snyder of McGaheysville; and two special great-nieces, Megan Heatwole of Staunton and Emma Lilly Jenkins of Orlando.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the chapel of Bear Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Sites officiating. Burial will follow at Jerusalem Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be John Jenkins, Dan Snyder, James Snyder, Gary Firebaugh, Anthony Showker, Jim Henderson, Edward Albert and Eric Piner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeanne Snyder, Patricia Snyder, Judith Jenkins, Lori Snyder, Rick Snyder, Ben Snyder, Megan Heatwole, Emma Lilly Jenkins and Hannah Kellington.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010, at the funeral home.
