Yvonne "Bonnie" Devoy

Yvonne "Bonnie" Devoy, 88, of Waynesboro, died on Friday, September 24, 2010, at Summit Square Retirement Community.

She was born on March 16, 1922, in Mulberry, Kansas, the daughter of Horace Yarington and Mabel Davis Yarington.

She graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education, and was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

Mrs. Devoy's love of music was evidenced in teaching others how to play the violin. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, she played in the hand bell choir and enjoyed singing.

She was an avid golfer and bridge player, belonging to the Life Master American Contract Bridge League.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Devoy; and a daughter, Susan Devoy Kent.

Surviving are her son, Richard J. Devoy of Waynesboro; daughter, Judi D. Hawes and her husband, Pete, of Churchville; eight grandchildren, Kenneth B. Devoy, Timothy A. Devoy, Elizabeth K. Devoy, Dawn Erin Garza, Adrienne K. Meadows, Rebecca S. Hawes, Adam P. Hawes, and Michael J. Hawes; four great-grandchildren, and a special niece, Kenda Saunders.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at McDow Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Augusta Memorial Park by Dr. Glen A. Holman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 West Broad Street, Waynesboro, VA 22980, First Presbyterian Church, 11th Street at Wayne Avenue, Waynesboro, or to the charity of your choice.
