James 'Jim' Vinal Roberts

LINCOLN - James "Jim" Vinal Roberts, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. The Lord took him away from us after a long battle with COPD and cancer. Jim was born in Milford on Jan. 2, 1937, the son of the late Vinal and Edna Roberts. Jim enjoyed his farm "Memory Lane." He enjoyed watching the NASCAR races with his brother-in-law David Jenkins. He also was an avid baseball and wrestling fan and loved spending time with his barn cats. He so loved his children and grandchildren. Jim and Juanita and their children were also known as the six "J's". Jim retired from Steiner and Company after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his brother, Elden Roberts; and his sister, Dorothy Pierce. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Juanita Roberts; four children, Julie Messick and boyfriend Brett Johnson, Joan Holleger and her husband Dean, Jimmy Roberts and girlfriend Carol Rohrbaugh and Judy Vincent and her husband Dean; ten grandchildren, Gary Messick II, Chad Holleger, Greg Messick, Mandi Holleger, Lauren Roberts, Katelyn Roberts, Phillip Messick, Morgan Roberts, Brock Vincent and Mallory Vincent; two brothers, Oscar Roberts and Everett Roberts and his wife Mary; two sisters, Doris O'Donnell and Joyce Adams and her husband Rod; and special friends, Bob and Evelyn Lynn. Friends called Tuesday, June 16, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where services were Wednesday, June 17. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery, Clendaniel Pond Road, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either Lincoln United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Lincoln, DE 19960 or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
