Gertrude Van Horn Obituary



FRANKLIN - Gertrude A. Van Horn, 90, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Vernon to the late David and Bertha Skellenger, Mrs. Van Horn had lived in Sussex County all of her life. She had been a former member of the Colesville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Van Horn was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin in 1975; her two daughters, Dolores and Rosanna Van Horn; her two brothers, David and Lawrence Skellenger; her five sisters, Evelyn Delamarter, Gladys Shipman, Dorothy Van Horn, Hazel Vealey, and Jesse Willis; her grandson, Tyler Sides; and her two son-in-laws, Dennis McAdam, Sr. and Frank "Skip" VanDuzer, Sr.
She is survived by her four sons, Benjamin Van Horn, II of Florida, Terence Van Horn of Florida, David Van Horn and his wife Margaret, of Franklin, and Travis Yates and his wife, Ann, of Florida; her four daughters, Rena McAdam of N.Y., Susan
Smith and her husband David of Pa., Christine Holley of Wantage, and Bernice Sides and her husband Rusty of Texas; her three sisters, Mary Dunay of Vernon, Kathleen Thomas of Florida, and Myrtle "Honey" Mackerly of Hamburg; 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank S. (Route 23), Sussex with an Interment at Clove Cemetery.
Friends may pay their respects to the family on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
