Salvatore Giaimo Obituary

Salvatore T. Giaimo SCOTCH PLAINS -- Salvatore T. Giaimo, 85, died Monday, May 10, 2010, at his daughterÕs home in Dunedin, Fla. Born Aug. 2, 1924, in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Anthony and Matilda Giaimo.

Mr. Giaimo graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City in 1942, and later attended Jersey City State College, where he majored in education. He worked for 40 years at the Bayonne Navy Yard as a refrigeration mechanic, and was a U.S. Army veteran who served his country in the 51st Constabulary Squadron in Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, serving alongside his older brother Frank in the NavyÕs Construction Battalion, the Seabees. He enjoyed life fully, was always the talkative one, was curious about life and the future, loved construction and had hundreds of war stories to tell.

Mr. Giaimo is survived by his former wife, Gloria, of Dunedin, Fla.; his sons, Joseph and his wife Sally, of Vernon, James and his wife Sybil, of Plainfield, Jeffrey and his partner, James, of Basking Ridge, and Jason and his wife Hetal, of Pleasanton Calif.; his daughters, Joan Giaimo and Judy Giaimo, of Dunedin, Fla.; his brother, Basil, of Dixon, Ill.; six grandchildren, Jamie Boyle, Douglas Kimball, Jainam Giaimo, Ashni Giaimo, Justin Giaimo and Jayden Giaimo; and two great-granddaughters.

A private memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. in Dunedin, Fla., on Monday, May 24. Letters of condolences may be sent to Joe and Sally Giaimo at 3 Glenview Lane, Sussex, NJ 07461.
