Frank Smyth Obituary

SMYTH
Frank Ambrose, of Hoboken, NJ, passed away suddenly on March 31, 2014.
He was 60 years old.
Frank is survived by Susan McLaughlin Smyth, his five children and two sons-in-law; Danielle Smyth Stiles and Morgan Stiles, Christie Smyth DiStefano and Doug DiStefano, Caitlin Smyth, Tara Smyth, Timothy Smyth; and by his five grandchildren; Dylan, Connor, Logan, William and Chloe. Frank took immense pride in his children and their many accomplishments.
Frank was born in Manhattan on November 11, 1953 and raised in The Bronx. As a native son of The Bronx, Frank graduated from St John's Kingsbridge Grammar School, All Hallows High School, and Manhattan College.
Frank was an outstanding athlete, excelling at track at All Hallows. In high school, he played football for the Bronx Spartans. He came to the attention of Manhattan's legendary football coach, Larry Kelly, and was recruited as a running back. Frank captained the 1974 Jasper team demonstrating the leadership that would be evident throughout his life. During his working career Frank returned to his running roots and competed in many road races, including multiple New York City and Boston marathons.
Frank will be remembered as a man of remarkable generosity, loyalty, and selflessness - and at times, a devilish sense of humor. He had a wide circle of friends who knew that spending time with Frank would bring a smile to their faces. Frank was always willing to assist friends and family, at any time, for any reason. He embodied the best compliment that could be paid to a man in The Bronx, for he was known as a stand up guy.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Frank Smyth (Co. Cork) and Mary (O'Donnell) Smyth (Co. Leitrim). In addition to his children and grandchildren, Frank leaves his cherished brother Pat and sister-in-law Eileen along with his nephew Michael Smyth and niece Colleen Smyth Orth. He leaves many loving cousins and his adoring nieces and nephews.

My condolences for the loss of Frank. We all worked on the NYSE floor together. Frank was a good trader and an even better person.

My condolences to Tim, Caitlin and the rest of the Smyth family. May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I remember Frank as a 12 year old at Croke Park when he and his brother Pat whose Dad (Uncle Frank)was my grandfathers baby brother would stop the older kids from beating me up. Thanks Frank! Say hi to your parents and my parents too up there. Your Dad used to give me five bucks every time he saw me so tell him thanks. Lost track as we got older but never forgot his innate kindness and sense of fairness as a child. Safe journey Frank.

Tara's CYO basketball team remembers the great support and spirit that the Smyths provided. The limo ride from Dunwoodie to Upper Saddle River left the winning team with jaws agape and in shocked disbelief - what a memory you gave to the girls and their parents. We are all saddened by your passing. Peace

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
