Burton Lerner

Lerner Burton, of Englewood Cliffs, NJ passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 at the age of 87.

Born in Bronx, NY on February 17, 1930 to the late Ethel and Harry Lerner, Burt was raised in Spring Valley, NY. He served his country in the US Army, graduated from Rutgers University, and settled in Tenafly, NJ where he raised a family. Burt was the president and owner of Tenavision, Inc., an electrical contractor. He was a volunteer to the scholastic chess community, having served as Treasurer of the American Chess Foundation, a trustee of Chess in the Schools Inc., and Vice President of Collins Kids Inc. From 2005-2010 the US Chess Federation renamed the National Elementary School Championship in his honor.

Burt is survived by his three children Andrew, Deb and Scott, his four grandchildren Jamie, Matthew, Josie and Crosby, and his sister Lois Finkelstein. Funeral Service Friday April 14 10:00am at Gutterman and Musicant 402 Park St., Hackensack. Should friends desire contributions may be made to The Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation.
