Dee Martindale Obituary

MARTINDALE Dee Linda (nee Dye), beloved mother of Jennifer and Cassidy and wife of Peter, died suddenly on Wednesday June 11 at the age of 61. A graduate of University of Michigan School of Nursing (BSN) and Columbia University (MSN), she maintained a private practice in family and individual psychotherapy in Hackensack. Born in the Midwest, she brought an abiding sense of optimism to her work and inspired her children to pursue their dreams. Besides her immediate family she is survived by her sisters, Sue and Lois, by the godmother of her children, Janet Sommerrock, and by her deeply cared-for trio of dogs, Charlie, Emily and "One Dog Too Many". Her favorite story was of talking a local police officer out of giving her a ticket for going through a stop sign, explaining, based on her past experience living on a farm, that she had made a "Hoosier stop", as one did when safely rolling a haywagon through an intersection with a tractor. Services will be held at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, Ridgewood and Maple Avenues, Ridgewood, NJ on Sunday, June 15 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on her behalf to Doctors Without Borders, P.O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741.

I was lucky to have Dee for a friend at Michigan and again recently. She was funny and witty even when she was ill. She was healer even in college. Her dorm room was a haven for quirky advice and stories. Of all her many accomplishments she was proudest of being a Mom. My sincere condolences to Peter, Jennifer and Cassidy, Sue & Lois.

I can say that of the many people I have crossed paths with, Dee was one of those people you can never forget. Her humor and fast wit was always a great reason to visit. She was so very proud of her daughters. I was blessed to know her and her amazing family. Her strength was inspiring and I will carry that with me always. She will be missed by many.
