Di IANNI
Pasquale "Pat", Esq., 85, of Clifton, passed away on August 16, 2013. Born in Paterson, Pat attended public schools in Paterson and Clifton and was awarded his BA in 1948 and MA in 1952 from Montclair State Teachers College, now Montclair University. Pat served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1954. In 1957 Pat received his Bachelor of Laws Degree from Rutgers University which was converted to a Juris Doctor Degree in 1968. Pat was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1958 and engaged in private practice in Clifton for the past 55 years. Pat served as an Assistant Prosecutor for Passaic County in the early 1960's and as Municipal Attorney for the Borough of Pompton Lakes in the early 1970's. Pat was appointed Commissioner to the Passaic County Improvement Board, and was a member of the Passaic County Board of Elections. Most recently with the help of the Freeholders, Pat was able to establish the Passaic County Board of History and Tourism, in order to make Passaic County a tourist destination, and currently served as its Chairman. Pat's leadership as a Democrat has been an inspiration to many, not only in Clifton, but throughout the entire county. He considers the formation of Vision 2020 one of his largest accomplishments. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Passaic County. Pat was also an advocate to have the Great Falls in Paterson designated as a National Park and testified before Congress in order to make this happen. Beloved husband for 27 years of Ludmilla "Millie" (Makarewicz) Di Ianni. Devoted father of Patricia, Denise, Diane, Ric, David, and stepdaughter Ellen. Loving grandfather of nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Virginia, Linda and Rita. Funeral Wednesday 10 AM, at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. I miss just talking about Paterson past. There is a lot not written down. I miss how we both believed that we were related. I miss our talks about happy times and always a kind word never a unkind thought or word. A true friend.
Always in our thoughts,

I met Pat only three times twice in New York and at Michael and Crystle Brook's wedding. He always made me feel special. Now he is with God.

Although I had not seen Pat in many years, the fond memories of his sharp wit and realistic idealism impacted me greatly. Mostly, he was always looking out for me offering gentle advice.

My family will forever miss our dear friend. How he talked about Italy and would tell everyone we were related because of the town we shared in Italy. It was always a wonderful time laughing, talking and just listening to Pat when we were together. I will miss Pat but will continue to remember our time together and continue to share our love for Paterson and Mercolino.
