Bradford Updike Obituary

Bradford Julian Updike, Sr., 79, of Front Royal, died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Warren Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Seth Alcorn. Burial will follow in Bennett's Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Updike was born January 11, 1931 in Warren County, son of the late Edwin Grafton Updike, Sr. and Margaret Virginia Fox Updike. He retired from Industrial Towel Supply in Front Royal. Mr. Updike was a member of Rivermont Baptist Church. He was a lifelong horse lover, and enjoyed riding and sharing that passion with others.

Surviving are one son, Bradford Julian Updike, Jr. and wife Barbara of Browntown; one grandson, Adam Updike and wife Shannon of Singers Glen, VA; one granddaughter, Jennifer Payne and husband Chris of Front Royal; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Xander Payne; and one brother, Jessie Ken Updike and wife Betty of Timberville, VA. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Weaver Updike; a son Ronnie Updike; and a brother, Edwin Grafton Updike, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Adam Updike, Jennifer Payne, Andrew Updike, Sam Updike, Mark Updike, and Tim Clem.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Payne, Xander Payne and Shannon Updike.

The family will receive friends on Friday, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
