Jason Dowell Obituary

Jason Mansor Dowell, 37, passed on from this life June 17, 2009 at home surrounded by his family in Stephens City, Virginia after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Hope Michelle Dowell, and three beautiful children Ethan Jonas Dowell, age 9, Aleyna Corrin Dowell, age 6, and Elise Ozara Dowell, age 4.

Jason was born on August 3, 1971 in Harrisonburg, Virginia to proud parents Robert and Lucille Dowell. He grew up in the country close to nature, family, and friends. His siblings are Larry Nichols, Lynn Oliver, Jesse Dowell and Anna Carey. His grandmother is Juanita Dowell of Winchester. In Jason's passing, he also leaves behind a large extended family and network of friends. Their tremendous outpouring of effort and love in the final days is a testimony to the life Jason lived.

In life as in death, he touched many lives. He was a dedicated and wonderful father and husband. He was a man of unwavering faith in God and a devout member of his church. By trade he was a cabinet maker in the family owned business in which he worked for many years. His meticulous work was a tribute to craftsmanship that is uncommon in these times. Jason always reached out to his fellow man and one of his favorite ways of doing this was through his passion for music. A gifted guitarist, he also possessed a singing voice that stirred hearts and lifted spirits. He wrote a great many songs, but regrettably only a few of his works were recorded. His life was a beautiful thing to behold, filled with love and the admiration of all those around him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Valley Harvest Ministries, 161 McCarty Lane, Winchester, VA 22602. Family night and public viewing to be held Friday the 19th from 6 - 8pm at Jones Funeral Home, 228 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester. Funeral will be on Saturday the 20th at 2pm at Fellowship Bible Church, 3217 Middle Road, Winchester.

"My dad liked music, storms, worship and his family. We will miss him greatly, but glad he is in heaven singing with the angels." -Ethan Dowell

Just wanted to express my condolences to Lynn Oliver and all of the Jason's family. I was one of Lynn's roommates and have had the pleasure of getting to know this wonderful family - you are all very special!

Jason was a wonderful guy and I know he is now resting in peace with God. I will continue to pray that you all will find peace and be comforted by all of the blessings of friendship and support.

Warmest regards and a big HUG from Chris Rose Harriger and Kevin Harriger!

It is sometimes difficult expressing the words during times like these. Some people can exhaust a lifetime in this world and make little difference. Others are here for a moment making an impact beyond measure. It is the latter that continues in our spirit and is passed on for generations. From what I have read, Jason left massive footprints during the short walk. I didn’t know Jason personally but I do know his spirit. Thank you for sharing your son, husband, father, brother and friend with us. There is a celebration in heaven this day, it is suitable for us to rejoice a good and faithful servant.
