Jack McGee Obituary
He was born in Bonifay, Fla., to Jack and Marjorie Belle McGee. Phipps moved to Fort Walton Beach, Fla., in the 1950s where he graduated from Choctawhatchee High School and the University of West Florida. At the time of his passing, Phipps was employed with Eglin Federal Credit Union for 38 years, most recently serving as President and CEO.
Phipps was a former Kiwanis and a member of Destin United Methodist Church.
He leaves behind his wife, Jeannie; and sons, Jack of Destin, Fla., and Will of Gainesville, Fla. Phipps also leaves behind his devoted extended credit union family; as well as, his many in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Phipps was preceded in death by his father, Jack; and his mother, Marjorie; and his beloved sister, Ann.
Per his wishes, there will be a private family memorial.
Phipps was a man of great strength and dignity and will live in our hearts forever.

You will sorely be missed, Phipps!! You were a great leader and an even better person. I remember asking you if we needed to start calling you "Mr. McGee" after you became the president; you replied "if you do, I'll be looking for my dad!" The CU will never be the same without you. Dear family, I met Phipps in 1978 when I worked for the janitorial service at EFCU. Over the years, I came to know many of the credit union members..Phipps was one of them. He always had a smile and kind word. I worked there for 19 yrs. and then "retired". But, to this day, I remember them all fondly.

We live in Georgia now and saw the Notification in the E-News today. I was so glad to have seen Phipps last April at Jim Norris's Retirement! He said to me-It's great to see you again,and I responded back with the same remarks.While working in Supply for EFCU,Phipps always showed Superb Leadership and Kindness(The Entire 17 Years & way beyond EFCU with no end--He never though at any point in time that he was better than anyone just because he was the President of EFCU! If I went to him with a Problem(Once I did).,He took all the facts(Twice)and solved the Problem Promptly & Wisely--What a Leader,and Friend.I also remember him as Inspiring me to do my Best,with his easy way and wise demeanor(as the E-News said). Jeannie,Jack,and Will- though I've not yet had the privilege of meeting you, please know that my heart aches for you and that you are in my prayers. Phipps and I became fast friends at Oakland Elementary and remained best buds through high school. Though we drifted apart with college, careers, etc., I will always think of him as best friend. We reconnected when I visited him at EFCU over the years when I was in town and at our last Choctaw reunion. I carry many fond memories of growing up as pals- going to church and Sunday School; playing sports; building models (and blowing them up); hitting the beach and surf; learning to drive on the dunes of Grayton Beach; girls; Key Club state conventions-just to name a few. I was very blessed and fortunate to have him as a wonderful friend and brother in spirit. It's obvious all the qualities that made him such a great friend carried over into his family and professional relationships and successes. We all miss him greatly.

I used to work in the front office of the Marketing Department at Eglin FCU and if Phipps walked by and had a minute he would have a seat and we talked about our boys and what they were up to. A great boss and nice man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My prayers are with this family. I've been a member of Eglin for a few years. I had an issue come up with a manager at one of the branches. I went to Mr.Mcgee's office upset & he actually listen to my problem & treated me like family while I was there. I'll never forget what he did for me and how he treated me. My husband said I'd never get in his door. I since have moved to Texas a few weeks ago. My banker I met that day took time out of her day to call me and tell me this devastating news. I met Amanda Nelson the day I went into Mr.McGees office. I have never had a bank treat me so kind as Eglin. I live in Texas and still use Eglin. I know he will be Greatly missed.
