Ferrell Shipp Obituary

Ferrell Shipp of Destin, Fla., died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the age of 86.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1925, to the late Phocian Parmer and Lela Vandiver Shipp. Ferrell graduated in 1943 from Morgan County High School in Hartselle, Ala., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a restaurant operator most of his career and, for the last 46 years, operated restaurants in the Destin and Fort Walton Beach areas. He leaves behind many loyal employees at Silver Sands Restaurant in Destin, as well as his friend and business associate, Charles Morgan of Harbor Docks restaurant.
In addition to his parents, Ferrell was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Mae Reed and Erlene Hobby; and brothers-in-law, Nathan Reed and Orus Kinney. He is survived by his sisters, Pat Kinney, Jeri Weidman (Duane), and Jo Smith (Tommy); his children, Jim (Sue), Roy, Tom (Deb), and Susan; his step-daughters, Vicki, Terri, Robin and Cheryl; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ferrell was an avid outdoorsman, spending much of his spare time in his later years as the "Head Coach" at the Pineapple Penthouse. He loved his Alabama Crimson Tide and flew their flag proudly until the end. He was a good father, son, brother and grandpa and set a great example of honesty, integrity and old-fashioned values.
There will be a time of visitation on Friday, July 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home, with a memorial service to begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Ryan Shipp officiating.
You may go online to offer condolences to the family and sign the guestbook at www.heritagegardensfuneralhome.com. Heritage Gardens Funeral Home of Niceville is entrusted with the arrangements.
