Steven Nevel Obituary
He was born Sept. 14, 1954, in Belvidere, to Dale Nevel and Marilyn (Secor) Botterman.
He was a lifelong resident of the Huntley and Marengo areas. He graduated from Huntley High School in 1972.
He was a well-known Jersey breeder and judge. He enjoyed golfing and riding horses. He especially loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Isaac (Diane) Nevel; his grandchildren, Hudson, Duncan and Taylor; his siblings, Dale Ann (Glen) Borhart and Keith (Alice) Nevel; his stepfather, Ron Botterman; and his aunt, Garnet Anthony.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson St., Marengo. A service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at the church. Interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to Illinois Jersey Juniors, in care of Darren Ropp, 26773 E. 100 North Road, Strawn, IL 61775.

Isaac and family, I was so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. I will always remember first meeting your dad at Kane County Fair back in the late 80s or early 90s and thinking he looked like such a tough-guy. Then getting to know him through the years and finding out what a truly great person he was. Big-hearted, caring and a great sense of humor are the words that come to mind. I am sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers.

Steve has touched the hearts of so many people, especially the children who got to know him. My boys will miss him a lot. Steve will forever be remembered and I am thankful to have been able to call him a friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who loved him and his family. He truly was an amazing and thoughtful man who asked for nothing in return.
