Jack Dahl Obituary

CRYSTAL LAKE – Jack Warren Dahl, 82, a longtime resident of Crystal Lake, died Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.
He was born in Lombard to Elmer and Bernice (Raycroft) Dahl.
He graduated from Crystal Lake Community High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he completed paratrooper training and served in Japan during the occupation.
Upon his return, he enrolled in Chicago Technical College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1951. He spent most of his professional career in the building industry.
During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling cross country in his motor home with his wife, Marilyn, and their treasured cats. While visiting family and friends, he always was willing to lend a hand with home improvement projects.
He enjoyed playing biweekly pinochle with his lifelong friends for more than 45 years and participating in various couples bridge groups, as well.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn (Reinecke); four sons, Scot (Virginia) of Bowie, Md., Jay (Peggy) of Palatine, Jim (Marty) of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Wayne (Michelle) of Kamuela, Hawaii; his eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his older sister, Elaine Dahl of Crystal Lake.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crystal Lake Public Library or First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake.

I have fond memories of the days I spent at the Dahl home during my pre-teen and teenage years. Jack always seemed larger than life to me and made me feel welcomed. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Dahl family.
