Richard Gray Obituary

ROUND LAKE BEACH – Richard S. Gray, 64, of Round Lake Beach, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Barrington.

He was born March 12, 1947, in Chicago, to the now late George and Delores (Krellie) Gray. Raised in Grayslake, he was an altar boy and parishioner at St. Gilbert Catholic Church in Grayslake.

He served proudly in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an electrician and a member of I.B.E.W. Local 134 for more than 40 years. He was involved in the Wednesday night A.A. group in Father Berger Hall at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Round Lake for 27 years, affectionately known as "The Candyman."

He was the loving father of Yvonne (Robert) DeBartolo, Peggy (Kevin) Sanneman, Frank Deates, Michele (Mark) Freund, Traci Gray and Richard (Michelle) Gray; dear "Opa" of Michael, Heather and April Flohr, Kevin Jr., Shannon, Kristal and KaSandra Sanneman, Derek, Billy, Frankie, Timothy and Jonathan Deates, Matthew and Mykell Freund, Emily Gray, Nikolaus Altman, Mallory Koch, Henry and Madison Berrard, and another grandchild very soon; great-grandfather of Anslee, Alyssa, Jenna, Caleb and Braeden; and dear brother of Georgia Gray.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helene Gray; a daughter, Lisa Marie Koch; and his brothers, Robert, Michael, Wayne and Thomas Gray.

Friends of the family may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at St. Gilbert Catholic Church, 301 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Libertyville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for presentation to local A.A. groups.
