Velma Matthews Obituary
Velma M. Matthews, age 77, of East Chicago, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at home. She is survived by her husband, Alfred Matthews; four grandsons: Alyun (Mercedez) Taylor of East Chicago, Edward (Vanessa) Matthews of Indianapolis, Jayson (Alisha) Matthews of Nashville, TN, and Jermaine (Kia) Fears of Indianapolis; eight great grandchildren; two sisters: Garnet Young and Geraldine Hollis, both of Alliance, OH; one brother, Jewel Hill of Alliance, OH; goddaughter, Anita (Willie) King of Merrillville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 4911-13 McCook Ave., East Chicago with Rev. Douglas Sloss officiating. Interment at Alliance City Cemetery in Alliance, OH. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service at First Baptist Church. Hinton & Williams Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

To Mr. Matthews and Family: I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Velma. Mr. Matthews, you two were the perfect couple, to me. Your demeaners, your smiles, even down to the way you two dressed so elegantly. I know she will be missed, but you can make it. Continue to hold to God's unchanging hand and He will see you through this difficult time. My prayers are with you. Love you and God bless!
