Donald Martin Obituary

DONALD EUGENE MARTIN CHESTERTON, IN
Donald Eugene Martin, 69, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on August 23, 2014 after battling a terminal illness. He is survived by his wife, Linda Martin (nee Perrah); brother, Bill Martin (Barbara); step children: Heather Augustyn (Ron), and Charlie Ransford (Elizabeth); four step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters: Karen and Kristine; parents: James and Alice Martin; brothers: Robert, James, John, Lloyd, and Herbert; and sister, Marilou. He attended Lew Wallace High School and served as a Master Sergeant E-8 in the U.S. Army. He was held as a Prisoner of War in South Vietnam from March 2, 1968 until his successful escape from captivity on April 14, 1968. He retired from the military on August 15, 2000 after an extensive career in the military including serving with the 10th Special Forces Group, admin specialist with the U.S. Army Institute for Military Assistance at Fort Bragg, assistant squad leader, operations sergeant, combat engineer, platoon sergeant, personnel management specialist, and construction foreman. He served with the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines, and the National Guard. After his retirement he enjoyed working in his yard and camping. His sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Linda we are very sorry to hear about Don passing. Don had a very long and distinguished service to our country. He was the definition of a hero. May he rest in peace forever.
