NATALIE BALLEN Obituary

BALLEN--Natalie, died October 17th, five weeks short of her 97th birthday. She was surrounded by her much beloved and loving family. Natalie was born in Manhattan to Benjamin and Dora Winter. She was a graduate of Hunter College where she developed a life long love of learning. As a voracious reader, NPR and classical music listener, museum and theater goer, she took advantage of all that New York City had to offer. A generous woman from the start, she showed by example; not just with items of measurable value but with her time and energy. Natalie was predeceased by Irving, her loving husband of 39 years and was a devoted and much cherished mother to Steven Stern (Janet) and Barbara Heffer (John) and stepmother to Roger (Lynda), Kate and Sian and stepgrandmother to Amanda, Paul, Isobel, Alex, Olivia and William. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, Michael (Lauren), Marcy, Alison and Douglas (Jenny) and her eight great-grandchildren. Natalie made an indelible impression on all who knew her and will be remembered for her generosity of spirit and incredible love of family. Services will be private. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Heffer residence on Monday, October 19 between 5:30pm and 9pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of their choice.
