Sheila Novitz
September 6, 2018
My name is Sheila Novitz. I am reading Andrew Kazdin's Glenn Gould at Work : Creative Lying. Halfway through the book, I have warmed so much to your father that I would like to offer my condolences to you on his death. Although I am seven years too late, I believe I that the pain we feel on losing a beloved parent does not ever subside, and I send you my deepest sympathy and wish all of you a long life. My heart has gone out to your dad since reading of his bewilderment and pain at the way he was treated by Glenn Gould. I believe that genius such as Gould's lives somewhere on the autism spectrum, and that his behaviour towards your father was indicative of an autistic person's recognition of only himself and his ambitions, and utter disregard for the feelings of others. Your father did very fine work and loved his family, which is what matters most of all. I am most grateful to
have found his book and to have discovered a little bit about him. I feel enriched. Thank you for allowing me to write in your Guest Book.

I hope Nancy Kazdin or any family family reads this.My name is Avis R. Goldstein.I live in Hingham,Massachusetts. This morning I was looking through piles of old papers and came across a "script" of Rumpelstilskin"for Nancy-written by Andrew Kazin.I was the narrator!!it was at Boston University/1995-your dad sent a wonderful letter to me!And now, comes my apology:I had no idea who your father was or Don Kaufman.I was just a kdg. teacher filling in at the last minute for some other "famous"person who was sick.
I'm sorry for your loss-and as I read your dad's letter,I thought,what a wonderful,alive person!

I never had the please of meeting Andy - we worked several generations apart in the music industry - but to this day seeing his name on the back of a CD means a seal of approval. To my ears no one has been able to make chamber musicians sound better. For his work with Isaac Stern, specifically the Mozart flute quartets and Beethoven trios, I will always be extremely grateful. Thank you for the gift you've given us.

This is from his daughters Barbara and Nancy. On behalf of both of us, I'd like to say that we are loving these comments--and will cherish each one. The outpouring of love and respect for our father has been a huge comfort in this time of mourning. We lost our Dad, but the world lost a great and talented musical master. We will be checking back often--so keep these beautiful comments comin'........

Andy and I palled around for a while in High School, enjoying each other's brand of goofiness (e.g., we addressed each other by saying reverse-spelled versions of our last names). My sympathy on your loss.
