March 14, 1927 - April 17, 2017 of Great Neck, NY. Son of Samuel J. and Alice J. Sherman. Predeceased by beloved wife, Irma and brother Conrad M. Sherman. Exceptional father to Valerie (Richard), Amy (John), James (Heather) and Cornelia (Robert). Adoring grandfather of David, Alex, Lily, Julia, Michael, Emily, Jack, Sam, Cole and Brad. Loving companion of Maureen Miletta. Devoted friend of many, especially Alfred Miller and Steve Aronowitz. Graduate of P.S. 241, Boys High School 1944; Harvard College, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1948; Harvard Law School, 1951. Chairman of "Bull Warren" Club. Veteran of the U.S. Navy, 1945-1946. Editor, Naval Repair Base News, San Diego, CA. Partner, Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, 1951-1991. Real Property Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. Secretary of 795 FIFTH AVENUE Corporation (The Pierre Hotel), 1961-1991. Chairman of New York State Government Affairs Committee of The International Council of Shopping Centers. Vice-President, Caribbean Land & Timber Co. Ltd., British Honduras, 1966-2002. Co- Chair, Schools and Scholarship Committee of Harvard Club of Long Island. Patriarch of the Family. A voracious reader, world traveler, and lover of maps, trains, planes, and logistics. Interested in everyone and everything. Julius provided unconditional love to his family and friends. A loyal customer of Louie's of Manhasset. Services will be held at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11am.

I so admired Julius for many reasons. Being my father's best and most loyal friend is the most important. He really personified the Greatest Generation to me. He accomplished so much and we are all grateful to have known him.

I will always be grateful for the long friendship Julie shared with my father. I would like to think that they're both chuckling about some old memories of playing stickball, or getting an autograph from a Brooklyn Dodger at Ebbets Field, together right now.
Julie was a wonderful, warm and kind man.
My deepest condolences to the entire family.

I'm grateful to have known Julius. He portrayed warmth and intelligence and I admired how he carried his life's successes in such an understated manner. As a wonderful family man, Julius accomplished what many others aspire to, the patriarch of his family, by being a wonderful father and grandfather. Heaven's gain is our loss.
