RALPH GOLBY Obituary

GOLBY--Ralph Wesley, of New York passed away March 20th peacefully at home at the age of 89. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Max Leon Golby and Deborah Swett, and came East to attend Yale College, class of 1945. He honorably served in the Navy during World War II. He graduated Yale Law School in 1947 and returned to Portland, Oregon to practice law from 1948-1952. He joined the State Department as General Counsel of the Development Loan Fund and headed a bank program for Agency for International Development, US Government, Washington D.C. 1952-62, where he met his future wife Monique de Brabandere Poelman. They were married in Paris, 1961. He joined the Schering-Plough Corporation as Financial Executive of Overseas Operations, Senior Vice-President, travelling extensively throughout the world with his wife and later children, and dividing the ensuing 50 years between New York City and Far Hills, New Jersey. Following retirement he devoted his energy to leading the International Center of New York as Chairman of the Board for a decade. He is predeceased by his wife. He is survived by his daughter Alexandra J. Golby and son-in-law Chris Scovel of Boston, MA, and son Wesley L. Golby and Kim Bucci of Brooklyn, NY as well as three grandchildren, Phineas Scovel, Atticus Scovel, and Adele Golby. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Heavenly Rest at 3:30pm on Tuesday, April 30th.
