FINCH--Elizabeth "Betty"

Johnson, died peacefully on January 4, 2017 at Brookhaven in Lexington, MA, surrounded by her three children: Elizabeth Lathrop Finch, Edward Ridley Finch III, and Maturin Delafield Finch. She spent her last years in the loving embrace of her children and six grandchildren. Born January 29, 1921, Betty grew up in Briarcliff Manor, NY. She graduated from Vassar College in 1942 and went on to direct nursery schools for children of migrant workers. She received a Masters in Religious Education from Union Theological Seminary, and a Masters in Nursing from Yale. She married Edward R. Finch, Jr. in 1950. For several decades she served on the Board of Directors of the Church of All Nations, a settlement house in the Bowery. Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother. The well being of women and children held a special place in her heart. The birds at her feeder and flowers in her garden were lifelong joys. She was an unpretentious woman with a loving and generous spirit. She will be missed.
