THOMAS SCHEUER Obituary

SCHEUER--Thomas (Tom), age 85, of Greenwich, CT, passed away on July 27, 2013. Beloved husband and love of his life of Ann Fimmano Scheuer, he will be greatly missed by his brothers Robert (Gloria, decreased) and James (Ruth); his children Todd (Luciana), Gwenn [Bill] and Chris (Noz); and stepchildren Carl (Ande), Rindy (David, deceased) and Jerry [Mary]; and his eleven grandchildren. Tom was one-of-kind, whose love of family and friends was never ending. He lived a vibrant and diverse life, driven and defined by his passion for intellectual growth and his personal ethical code. A graduate of Columbia Law School in 1953, he deeply enjoyed practicing law well into the last years of his life, most recently as Chief Council of Louis Dreyfus Commodities. He also served as Chairman of the National Committee for Effective Congress, as an advisor to the Columbia Law School Association and president of their Board of Visitors, and as the chair of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. Throughout his life, Tom was an active athlete. He was an avid horseman for many years and a dedicated cyclist, runner, swimmer and skier. Tom was a wonderful man who will always be remembered for his love of life, generosity, intellect and eloquent command of the written and spoken word. A private celebration to honor Tom's life will be held at a later date.

I knew Tom through my father, Matthew Ies Spetter, and will always recall a wonderful dinner at his home. I was young but it was very special. Also, Tom helped me get a paralegal job in Manhattan and this brought me to law school and a 34 year legal career. He did good things. That is what I have to share and recall.
Thank you Tom. You changed the course of my life.

Tom was such a gentleman and so very kind to Peter and Hannah. What fine mentors for my children to have - - Ann with her cookies and good humor, and Tom with his thoughtfulness and kindness - - a wonderful couple. We will cherish our memories of Tom.

Dear Ann, We are saddened to hear of Tom's death. Although we haven't seen you recently, we will always remember the dinners and conversations we've had with you both.
