RICHARD COHEN Obituary

COHEN--Richard Norman, son of Janet Goldsmith and Norman M. Cohen, passed away January 2 in Stamford Hospital at the age of 90. Born in New York City, he was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale University. His college years were interrupted by his service during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Morocco, Italy and France. Returning to the US, Cohen graduated from Yale University as a member of the Class of 1945. Cohen began a 49-year career in the insurance industry in 1951 with Mass Mutual, ending his career in 2000 as a senior executive for Leonard Newman Agency and Arthur Gallagher & Co. He served on the Board of the New York Times for 12 years from 1960-1972. He also served on the boards of The New Canaan Country School and Silver Hill Hospital. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, Ann Robertson Cohen, two sons: Daniel Hays (Leah Keith), James Matthew (Barbara Carey), stepson Mark Maxwell Thompson (Marcia Buckley) and seven grandchildren.
