I am sending my deepest condolences to Lauren's family. I feel truly heart broken by the untimely passing of such a bright being in my life. I will always remember Lauren's kindness and generosity during our days in grad school, commiserating over the experience (our best and our worst moments), meeting many of the incredible people that encircled her wherever she went. I am not surprised she landed on her feet in Los Angeles and found a loving partner and a tight knit group of friends so quickly. I am incredibly grateful that we maintained a friendship beyond Yale, and to have spent precious time with her during the period of her illness. Her determination, positivity and humor throughout are a lesson on having faith, hope and grit, no matter the circumstances. She had such grace and wrote so eloquently about her struggle. I will always think of Lauren when I see the bounty of the farmers market, eat a plate of colorful food, soft shell crabs, sugar snap peas, purslane and anything fermented, Erewhon, when I visit the Silverlake reservoir, the Central Park reservoir…she exists deeply within many wonderful people and places and things that surround. Lauren brought me leftover minestrone soup at the studio, arranged an indigo dyeing gathering in New Haven, found a pond for us to escape to in Durham, Connecticut on the hottest day of the year. We rode bikes in Fire Island, cooked together in many different kitchens, shared our CSA vegetables one summer, exchanged emails and text messages as regularly as possible, and were excited for when we would both end up in Los Angeles. I will try to take comfort in the presence of her unique spirit in all those and which she cared for with such earnest passion, and that her dear Nana is with her wherever she is. Sending so much love to Joyce, Lou, Eric, Lisa, and Steve.

My heart goes out to the Adolfsen family. I only knew Lauren for two years, from the moment she arrived in LA. I immediately hired her and we worked on 7 projects together until she no longer could. She became a good friend. I loved her sweet and kind nature, her creativity and curiosity, and her grand love of LA. I remember how she felt guilty admitting to me how much she did not miss New York and would say it in a whisper and we could relate because I had lived in NY myself. We used to joke that perpetual sunshine and 75-degree weather is an addiction and affliction only experienced first hand in this town. My last conversation with her was after she had bought her new, hot pink Joe jeans last summer. I was checking up on her concerned how much weight she had lost but on the phone she was so upbeat, in love and hopeful. To her mom Joyce (who I met ever so briefly during Lauren's move to Culver City), I send you a big hug. There are no words to express a loss of such a beautiful person that was Lauren.

I met Lauren at Art Center before she was sick; I followed Snack Mountain where I got to meet her loving family, boyfriend and huge supporter of friends. I marveled at her courage and humor, her colorful (literally) art and life, her gratitude for all things great and small. Thank you Lauren for opening up your life.
