MARY HAMILTON

HAMILTON--Mary Morgan,

of New York City passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2017. Born in New York City to Thomas Alfred Morgan and Isabel Parker, she was predeceased by her brother Thomas Alfred Morgan Jr. She attended the Spence School, Pine Manor College, and graduated from Duke University. She was the Director of Admissions at The Day School (now Trevor Day School) for many years before working in Alumni Development at The Brearley School. Longtime parishioner of The Church of the Heavenly Rest, member of the Colony Club, the National Society of The Colonial Dames, and The Royal Oak Society, Counsellor to Scottish Heritage USA and life member of The National Trust for Scotland. An accomplished woman by any standard, her greatest joy was in her devotion to her family and extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends around the world. Devoted wife of the late Alexander R. "Pete" Hamilton. Survived by daughter Virginia Hamilton of Oakland, son Alexander Morgan "Sandy" Hamilton and his wife Linnae Fisher Hamilton of New York City, son Bruce Thomas Hamilton and his wife Rosemary Margaret McAndrew of Boston, and grandchildren Alice Beecher Popejoy and her fiance Jimmy Davidson and their daughter Kaia of Oslo, Norway, Ellen Isabel Popejoy of San Francisco, and Angus Joseph Hamilton of Edinburgh, Scotland, and also survived by her devoted caregivers Nashema Smith and Angela Wong, both of New York. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at The Church of the Heavenly Rest, 2 East 90th Street, NYC on September 23rd at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of the Heavenly Rest, The Spence School, or The Humane Society of New York.
