Glen Lasby Obituary

LASBY, GLEN
Ocala - Glen Lasby of Ocala, Florida, passed away May 16, 2011. He was born in Ithaca, New York in 1929, the son of James Lasby and Bernice Lunn, and lived most of his life in Dryden, Etna and Berkshire, New York. He served in the Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He received the Presidential Unit Citation, Korean War Service Medal with three battle stars, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and the United Nations Ribbon. He did a short stint as a recruiter in Syracuse, New York, before leaving the Marine Corps officially. He joined his fellow soldiers as a member of the American Legion for 45 years, mostly in the Groton, NY, chapter. Glen returned to civilian life in Cortland, New York, with his marriage to Marilyn Seltzer, and worked in Groton with Smith Corona Marchant, eventually moving to the Cortland plant. He retired as a supervisor in 1983. In 2007 he moved to Wildwood, Florida to be cared for by family while he suffered from Alzheimer's. He is survived by his brother, William (Bill) Lasby in Ithaca, NY, and his sister, Francis Manning, in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He was predeceased by his sisters: Phyllis Longo of Ithaca and Dorothy Lasby of Ithaca. He is also survived by his children: Glenda Chiara of Cortland, NY, Debra Lasby of Wildwood, Florida, Gary Lasby of Ocala, Florida, and Robin Navarro of Summerfield, Florida. Glen also has six grandchildren: Glenda's two sons: Jeffrey and Christopher, and Robin's children: Jessica, David, Christina, and Sophie.
