I am shocked and saddened to learn of Arnie's passing. I had no idea until now. Something I read on Lydia's FB page but can't find again, made me search and that is how I found out. I am so sorry to hear about this terrible event.

Today is Feb. 28th, 2013 and me and my daughter, Christy have just found out about the passing of our sweet Arnie. We are shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of Arnie. He lived in Henderson, Neveda when I meet Arnie and my daughter lived there also. We would have Arnie over for dinner and we always enjoyed him so much. He kept in touch with my daughter and her family. When my husband passed away, Arnie sent me a sweet card. We are just devastated and your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I met Arnie 2 years ago as we worked on a Booz Allen project together. Very bright guy. After that project I worked with him often to nagivate the new company that Booz Allen had become... I only had the opportunity to know him professionally, and never knew of his hidden talents. He will be missed. Arnie was a really good guy.

From the Capitol Hill Toastmasters Club in Washington DC,
Arnold was a loyal and beloved member of our organization. As a group dedicated to developing better public speakers and leaders, Arnold exemplified everything Toastmasters International stands for.
After he joined the club in the fall of 2010, we had the pleasure of seeing Arnold's incredible work ethic and intellect in person. Arnold delivered a number of diverse speeches to the club including: technical speeches, persuasive speeches, and perhaps our most enjoyable...humorous speeches. He was constantly working to his improve his skills as a public speaker and leader. He was a model example for his fellow members.
We also had the pleasure of getting to know Arnold on a personal level. He was funny, witty, and kind to everyone. He warmly welcomed new club members, and built meaningful relationships outside of the organization.
In order to honor Arnold's life at our club, we have officially named our annual speech contest the "Arnold Stux International Speech & Evaluation Contest." We miss Arnold deeply. He was taken way too soon. We will continue to educate future members about his life, and strive for excellence in our work; the way he did on a daily basis.
Sincerely,
The members of the Capitol Hill Toastmasters Club, Washington DC

I first met Arnie almost 24 years ago, the first day that I arrived at Northwestern University as an undergraduate. He just happened to sit at the same table as me in the lunchroom where our dorms had assigned us, and he was my first (and, for a time) only friend there. We had some wild times in our four years at the university, although we drifted apart a bit in the later years as our careers took different directions.
Nevertheless, we reconnected after graduation a few times, especially while he was living in Las Vegas. Eventually, when I got married to my wife in Istanbul in 2001, he came over for the wedding and traveled around Turkey with us for the honeymoon--and then came a second time in a subsequent summer as well. I'll never forget the one time we accidentally left him behind in the middle of central Turkey, only to have to go racing back to find him. Unflappable as always, he was chugging a beer with the carpet salesmen in the parking lot, much to everyone's amusement. It became one of the enduring stories of all who came on the trip with us.
Arnie last came out to visit in September of 2011, with a fried of his. He got to meet my newborn son, and we had a nice dinner and then I later got together with them for drinks (oddly, my wife, contrary to form, decided to let me go for the late night festivities). When I was going to a conference in Washington, DC this past month, we made plans to hook up again and I was supposed to see him there. I was surprised when he never showed up at the airport to pick me up.
When a mutual friend tried to follow up on what had happened, we were both horrified to find, three days later, that Arnie had finally been found in the DC morgue, a victim of the accident that had claimed his life some time before. I have still not recovered from the shock of that discovery, and had hoped to spend many more years trading stories and enjoying visits with Arnie. While all souls taste death, this one has come far too soon.
My deepest condolences go out to all of his friends and family. If any of our mutual contacts who have gotten together in Vegas over the years read this, please do get in touch--I'd love to hear from you.

I was very sad to learn of Arnie's passing today. I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend his funeral, but hope that I will be able to join some of his other friends here in DC for a gathering in his memory. Thank you for providing the scholarship fund as a way to remember him and help those who would follow in his footsteps to continue his academic legacy.

It was very sad to me. Arnold Stux was remembered as a kind man, an intelligent scientist and a humorous friend. He was very popular in a toastmaster club where I met him. He had hoped to fly higher as a pilot. Unfortunately, the fatal accident grounded him forever. He will be missed. My sincere condolence goes to his family.

Dear Stux Family:
I met Arnie via my cousin José Enrique Martín Gonzalez (chemical engineer) who met Arnie in Henderson,Nevada. Ted Thurston was also part of that group. We all would take many fun trips together and share our lives with each other on a regular basis. We traveled together to Mexico City, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Las Vegas, Napa, and San Francisco. While in Mexico we were in a dance contest and placed third place! Beating out 17 other couples. It was so much fun, and our prize was a bottle of tequila! It was hilarious, poor Arnie kept asking me; what's going on? I kept telling him, we're still in keep dancing. We laughed so hard after we won!
We all became great friends and last year I stayed with Arnie at his house in Washington D.C. He took me out to very cool places in D.C. He also took me around in his neighborhood and showed me the transportation system that was being built.
We were planning a trip to Brazil for the next year, and we were trying to figure out schedules. Arnie would come visit his aunt in California and always managed to sneak a little time to spend with us. Anytime we were all together and he wasn't able to be with us, we would call him and he'd laugh at us. We told him how much we missed him and wanted to know when he was coming to California next.
I'm still heartbroken with the news that our friend has gone. I miss him. I am so sorry for you loss Stux family. Please know how much we loved Arnie, and how we will always keep him in our hearts.

Dear Stux Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. I just found out about this terrible tragedy! It's so awful and my heart is broken. Arnie had just left me a voice message! I visited Arnie in September 2010 and stayed at his house for a couple of days. I became friends with him through my cousin Jose Enrique Martin Gonzalez (also a chemical engineer and longtime friend of Arnie's). I traveled with Arnie, Jose, and Ted to Mexico City, Guanajuato, Guanajuato and Guadalajara, Jalisco. Arnie and I won third place in Guadalajara when we participated in a dance contest with more than 20 other couples. Yes, a dance contest! We had such a great time! Arnie couldn't believe that we won. Our prize was a bottle of tequila! We had recently talked about going to Brazil to celebrate Jose's birthday. Arnie also spent a few days with me and Benito (my boyfriend) while we traveled on a three-day trip to Napa. We went to many wineries, and we all shared a room together. We always had a great time. Arnie was a joy to be with. I loved Arnie very much. Whenever Ted, Jose and I got together we always "drunk called him!" he would just laugh at us and say he wished he was with us. We always asked him when he was planning to come to California to hang out with us. He would always come out to see his aunt and try to swing by and spend time with us too. We also had the chance to meet his other friends when we went to Las Vegas! What a blast that was. We were able to sneak visits in between his family visits, one I remember was in San Francisco. My prayers are with you all. With my deepest sympathy.

Dear Stux Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences and sympathies on your loss. I was a labmate and friend of Arnie's from Johns Hopkins. Some of my best memories from graduate school and beyond involved mini-adventures with Arnie. He really thrived on living in the moment and doing spontaneous things. You could always count on him showing up and closing a party. He had a great sense of humor. He really enjoyed talking with people and sharing his analysis of various subjects. He will be sorely missed. I wish there was more time for another adventure. This time Arnie, you left the party way too early.
