Carolyn Williams Obituary

Early on Sunday morning, June 13, 2010, Carolyn M. Williams departed this life after 97 blessed years.

She was born on May 18, 1913 to Maggie and Dewitt Murray. She was the youngest of four children being raised while in Port Gibson, Mississippi. She attended Clairborne County High School, later graduating from Jackson College. Her major was teaching music, which led to being a love of her life. In June of 1934 she married Joe Williams. She moved to Akron, Ohio in 1936 with her husband. She was a faithful Sunday school teacher for almost 50 years. Some of her activities included missionary, choir, an active member of the service league and active pianist.

She was preceded in death by father, Dewitt; mother, Maggie; brother, Dewitt Jr. and Weaver; sister, Vivian Ophelia; husband, Joe Williams; sisters-in-law, Dessie (Robert) Morris and Eva Lee; and brother-in-law, Thomas Williams (TJ). Carolyn is survived by nephew, Thomas (LaToya) Williams; niece, Gladys Carter; cousin, Marguerite (Mack) Parker; godchildren, Stephen (Judy) Powell; caregiver, Carolynda Dortch; and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to Lorene Pitts and Vivian Burgan.

I have a remembrance of Sister Tutta, Tutta - as my Grandma Erma Vinson would refer to her, from as far back as I recall anyone or anything and these warm memories I will carry throughout my journey. I loved her and she loved all of her FAFC Sunday School Children. My condolences to the family.

My heart was saddened to hear of Aunt Tutta's passing. I have many fond memories of her and Uncle Joe and especially loved to hear her sing and play the piano. Whenever I'd sing a few bars, she'd begin playing, following me by ear.

Forever in our hearts.

Sis. Tutta gone from our lives. She and my sister Jackie left here almost together. Sis. Tutta knew my great grandmother Emma Byers and told me how beautiful her voice was - soprano. My grandmother Sarah Ayres' mom. Sis. Tutta was a historian and could tell you everything about First Apostolic Faith Church. When I lost my son, she called me early in the morning on the day of his memorial service, that my great grandmother knew this kind of pain and that Jesus would take care of me. She told me that all of Heaven shouts when I sing and that she "knew Sis. Ayres, Jackie and Jean were rejoicing, too." What encouragement! Full of wisdom, love, compassion and faith; and, she is rejoicing in the ONE whom she worked so diligently for all her life right now! Thank You, Sis. Tutta for showing the way and living the life!

I am very sorry to hear of "Tutta's" death. She was a unique woman. I will always remember her. Draw close to God in prayer and He will sustain you all in your time of sorrow. Psalm 55:22. Yvette (Bay-Bay) Oliver Akron,OH.)
