Linda-Jo DeGroff Obituary
A native of Herkimer, New York, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Patricia Purdon Caple. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Brian DeGroff and brother, Brad Caple.
Dr. DeGroff was employed at the University of Georgia for over twenty years and retired as a professor in the Department of Language Arts. She had a genuine love for teaching and reading. In recent years, she volunteered at the Athens Area Humane Society.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Lorey and Chuck Pelto of Wixom, Michigan; four nieces and nephews; seven great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Athens Area Humane Society.

I was just looking up Dr. DeGroff to talk to her about possibly teaching again. I was very sad to learn of her death. She was a great professor, and we shared a love of children's literature. I really connected with her in the one class I had with her and now wish I had looked her up sooner. I have been an attorney for over a decade, and lost many of my education contacts. To her family, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that such a loss goes on. Sending love and I wanted you to know that Linda DeGroff was important in my life and so supportive of her students.

Dear Lorey and family, I was blessed with many years of friendship with Linda, including teaching together, hanging out with our husbands across many years, and special dinners now and then across the last few years. I have been living in Scotland for the past 4 months and just returned back to Athens. Please know my heart is with you and all the children who loved Aunt Linda. She was very special to me, and it's hard to be back and know she is no longer there at home. With love....

To Linda's family, I was so sorry to hear of Linda's passing. I just today found out today. Linda was a very caring person and i enjoyed working with/for her at UGA.
