Robert Koodrich Obituary

Koodrich, Robert George, age 61, passed away at his home in Palm Desert, California on November 15, 2010. Known to his friends as Bob, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Bob was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania on April 2, 1949 to Michael and Elizabeth Koodrich. He grew up in Baden, Pennsylvania with his three brothers, Kenneth, Richard and Dennis. He was very proud to have been a graduate of Ambridge High School and went on to obtain his BA degree at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. After his graduation from Ohio University, he took a position with the Phillips Van Heusen Corporation, and retired in August of 2010. During his 36 years of employment with Van Heusen, Bob received numerous awards and acknowledgements. He was an active member of the AHD's of Orange County. Bob was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan. However, golf was his passion, and after living in Huntington Beach California for 34 years, he and his wife, Jo Ann, moved to Palm Desert, California and fulfilled his dream of living on a golf course. Bob also loved rock and roll music...the louder the better. Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth and father, Michael. Surviving relatives include his wife, Jo Ann; daughter, Kelly Vandivort and her husband, Joel, of Corona, Ca.; daughter, Alison Koodrich and her husband, Jeremy Wittie, of Palm Desert, Ca; brother, Kenneth Koodrich and his wife, Chris, of Montara, Ca; brother, Richard Koodrich and his wife, Trish, of Cleveland, Ohio; and brother Dennis Koodrich of Baden, Pa. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ava Vandivort, Abby Wittie, and Jake Vandivort. Other surviving relatives include his aunts Stella Hrusko of Ambridge, Pa. and Stephanie Koodrich of Sewickley, Pa., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Friends may call at the Ferrara Colonial Mortuary, 351 North Hewes Street, Orange, California, on Sunday, November 21, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 22 at 12:10 pm at Holy Family Cathedral, 566 South Glassell Street in Orange. Burial will be immediately following at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 Santiago Canyon Road, Orange, Ca. I just heard the news and cannot even put into words the sadness I feel. I haven't seen Bobby for years, but he, Jo Ann and the girls were such a big part of my life for so many years. Bobby was such a good, decent guy and always so quick to laugh -- I just loved the entire family. And if there's one thing I remember most about Bobby it's how much he loved his family. My heartfelt prayers are with you all.

It has been just over two months since you left and it already seems like a lifetime. Every time something happens, especially with the kids, I want to call mom and have her tell you about it.... and then I remember. When I need help or advice, I think to myself that I will ask you.... until I remember. I hope that you are able to see and hear what happens here on Earth from Heaven because so many talk and think of you. I know that there is no suffering or pain in Heaven, just happiness and peace, and for that I am glad. I miss you and love you.

Everytime I went with David to Shoreview, you would walk over "hi Claudia". I was always asking David, which one is that? (of Karl and Lynne's neighbors). The answer was Koodrich...no first name. The last years before you moved, I finally had your face down pat and knew right away, "Hi Bobby"......now it's sad that the familiar face is gone. My prayers to your family, friends and neighbors.

Jo Ann, Kelly and Ali,
What moves through you is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why Bobby left this earth so soon, or why he left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. Bobby’s life gave us so many memories that we will never forget. This Thanksgiving, we will be offering thanks for Bobby’s presence in our lives.

Jo Ann, Kelly and Ali,

I will always remember Bobby as a fun loving man with a huge heart. I have so many great memories of Bobby, and of all of you as well. He played a big part of my childhood, as one of the parents in our Shoreview family. His lively, beautiful spirit will be kept alive in our memories. I love you guys.

Jo Ann and Family:

I am so sorry that Bobby lost his fight. He was a hell of a fighter! I am fortunate that Michael and I were able to come to Houston and visit with you and Bobby. We were so glad that Bobby wanted to go out to dinner. I will always remember the look Bobby gave me when I said "Bobby you didn't eat your broccoli". Hard to believe that was only 6 weeks ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Love,

Sheila and Michael

Bobby always made me feel important when I saw him. He would loudly say "Timmy" and give me big handshake with a pat on the back. The only time I saw Bobby remotley upset was when UCLA or the Steelers were losing. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Koodrich Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I had nothing but memorable times with Bobby. He touched all of us. He will be missed but never forgotten... Bobby, between using an empty party ball as a soccer ball and ordering Bigfoot pizzas, I am sure you have already made many new friends. Save me a seat.

Dear Jo Ann, Kelly, Ali, & the rest of the Koodrich Family,
I wish there was something that I could write that would ease the pain and bring peace to your family, but I know that there are no such words. I can only say that although Bobby will be missed tremendously, he will live forever in our hearts. My fondest memory of him was dancing together at my wedding, and that memory will never fade.
