Clarence Peterson Obituary

PETERSON, CLARENCE A., "PETE", was born February 16, 1919, at home on Michigan Avenue in Orlando, FL. He attended Grand Avenue Elementary, Cherokee Jr. High and graduated from Orlando High School in 1936. Clarence majored in accounting and marketing at the University of Florida, where he was active in the ROTC program. After graduation in 1940, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt. in Field Artillery serving in World War II on the European Front. Clarence was a CPA and partner in Potter, Bower and Co. and retired as a partner with Ernst and Young. Upon retirement, he went to work for Presbyterian Homes of the Synod of Florida (now Westminster Communities) Clarence was honored by having the Heath Center at Westminster Towers on Lucerne Circle named for him because of his countless hours of volunteer services. He was a member of Rotary Club of Orlando and served as a past president and was recently award a life membership to the Club. Clarence served as a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando where he was a member for 70 years. Clarence was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Mary Vergowe Peterson. He is survived by his son, Don (Lori); daughter, Carol Fosgate (Joe); grandchildren, Scott (Abby)
Fosgate, Beth Fosgate (Jamie Brown, her fiancé) John Fosgate (Renee). Great grandchildren,
Daley, Raleigh and Braxton. Sister- in-law, Diana Vergowe, and loving care givers, Sara Maiorana and
Julie Phillips. A Celebration of Clarence's life will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 11 AM, in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be given to Children's Home Society, 1485 S. Semoran, Suite 1448, Orlando, FL 32801, Attn: Tara or
Orlando Union Rescue Mission, 1521 Washington Street, Winter Park, FL 32792, Attn: Don Moody.

Clarence Peterson was a Christian gentleman whose life exemplified "the fruit of the spirit...joy, peace, patience,kindness,generosity,faithfulness,gentleness, and self control."

Dear Carole & the Peterson Family:

Clarence was a great mentor to me as I grew in the profession. And, he was a wonderful role model as a caring and involved person. A member of the "greatest generation" for sure. I shall remember the family and Pete in my prayers. God bless!
