Dear Grace

John and I send our deepest condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. We didn't know Andrew well, only our meeting with you both at Alex and Karen's wedding in Cuba but certainly enjoyed spending time with you both. Enjoy your special memories of your wonderful man to share with your beautiful granddaughter. RIP Andrew. You will be greatly missed by anyone who had the good fortune to have met you during your too short lifetime.

I have already expressed my condolences so I wanted to briefly relate the story of our friendship and how Andrew and I met more that 20 years ago.
For those of us that were experimenting with the internet in the early 1990's, one of the first types of social media was called the bulletin Board System (BBS for short). This is how Andrew and I first met, conversing back and forth via the keyboard about any number of interesting and obscure topics (now called chatting) and we became instant friends without ever having met face to face. At some point, it was arranged for the members of the BBS to meet, and we all hesitantly gathered at some pub on the market to find out what we all looked like. Surprisingly, most of us looked like what we had imagined.
In the early years of our friendship, we met on a regular basis, but the main means of communication was through computer. I have moved around the country somewhat, so this trend has continued over the years.
We shared a love of all things about computers, hockey, music, science, philosophy, pets, and just about any topic known to man that came up during conversation.
It is only fitting then, that I say goodbye now in a message typed on a computer keyboard.
Goodbye old friend, you have caught us off guard and I will miss you greatly.

Grace and family,

Please accept our deepest sympathies. While I didn't have the pleasure of having Andrew as a teammate, many of my good friends have including your captain last season Pat, and he and every one of those friends say what a great guy Andrew was. As you know, it was Pat's 1st year as captain in our league, and he told me often how much he enjoyed Andrew being on his team. My regular interactions with Andrew came after every game he played when I was scorekeeping, he would always ask me what the shots on net were for both teams. In fact, it got to the point where he'd just walk up to me and say "you know what I'm going to ask" :) then he'd often have some instant analysis based on the shots, it was a fun routine.

As Frew aptly put it, Andrew was the epitome of what our league is about -- fair play, fun, friendships, mixed in with just the right amount of good competition in trying to ultimately win the coveted Bubba Cup. Speaking of which, it was GREAT to see Andrew (and you) win his 1st and only Bubba in 2010 after the 12 seasons and 150+ games he played in this league! I remember 2 guys in particular, Marc-Andre and Dan Bergeron, being especially happy to help you guys win your 1st and only Bubba! I could tell it meant a lot to them, and to Andrew.

By all accounts, Andrew seemed like a great guy...loved by many...and left our world and league way too soon. He'll be greatly missed.

Again, our sincere sympathies to you, your daughter, and new grand-daughter --- our hearts really go out to all of you in this tough time.
