Thomas CASSIDY Obituary
At the Elizabeth Bruyere Hospital on January 7th, 2013 after a brief illness at the age of 75. Son of the late Darcy and Helen Cassidy and Step-mother Agnes. He is survived by his brother James and his step-sisters Patricia Bisson, Diane Dakers and Colleen McLane. Thomas is fondly remembered by his cousins George Poirier (Louise), Dave (Elaine) Cummings, many nieces and nephews and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Fr. Cassidy was ordained in June 1963, taught and coached wrestling at St. Patrick's High School, was Chaplain in the Canadian armed Forces, Provincial Secretary and Archivist, Secretary and Canonical Counsel to the Apostolic Nunciature, Sessional Professor at St. Paul's University and Judge at the Canadian Appeal Tribunal. Visitation at Holy Canadian Martyrs Parish (100 Main Street) on Friday, January 11 from 2-5pm and 7-10pm. (Evening prayer at 7:30pm.) and Saturday, January 12, from 9am – 11am. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am. Burial will take place at St. Theresa's - Oblate Cemetery, Arnprior, Ontario at 2:30pm. In memory of Thomas Cassidy, OMI donations may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 401-1376 Bank Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1Y 7Y3, or L'Arche Ottawa, 11 Rossland Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario K2G 2K2 or The Galilee Community Centre, 398 John Street North, Arnprior, Ontario K7S 2P6. I have just heard the news of Tom's death. We had a lovely visit in August. For twenty seven years he has been an important presence in my life. This will not change. Thank you, Tom, for being a spiritual mentor and my friend.

Fr. Tom, I will miss you and have wonderful memories; officiating at my wedding, godfather to my daughter Kate, baptizing my son, Mike, coming to Mayo Quebec for my mother's large family reunion where you camped out and said Mass for all of us, and saying Mass for the Notre Dame High School reunion in 1994 for all of the alumna, with such understanding of the need for it to be a women's Mass.
When I think of these events, I will remember that when asked, you never hesitated in saying 'yes'. When I think of you, I will think of our many walks and talks that shaped my life. Thank you and I love you, my Friend

Was saddened to learn of Fr. Tom's passing. Have fond memories of him during our studies at St Paul's.
Always enjoyed visiting with him at CL conferences and I appreciated his wisdom and respect for others.

He was always well prepared when he taught and was always there to help if the need arose. I met Tom in 1977 and was blessed to be able to call him a life long friend. He was always there...from whitwater rafting on the Ottawa to sitting with me in times of grief and pain. Tom will always be missed in our home and remembered in our hearts.

Tom will be in my thoughts and prayers and my sympathy to the family. I meet Tom at Holy Rosary, we often walked together and talked about the future. I was invited to share dinner with his family during the hollidays while I was at Holy Rosary and we kept in touch from time to time when I was in Ottawa. I recall him telling me he was the proud owner of mustard yellow pants when he was in high school. Thank God black became his basic fashion choice. RIP
