Dale Smith Obituary

Dale Dwight "Smitty" Smith, 81, of Midland, passed away Aug. 12, 2016 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. Dale was born Nov. 27, 1934 in Mt. Haley Township to John and Hazel (Emery) Smith. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1962.

He married Ardith Kelsey Jan. 31, 1959 in Homer Township. Smitty was employed by The Dow Chemical Co., retiring after 33 years with the company in 1988. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ardith of 57 years; two sons, Michael (special friend Vickie) Smith and Greg (Ed) Smith. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Dena, Josh, Katie, Ryan and Amanda; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doralane Krotzer and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rhonda; grandson, Chad; and seven brothers and sisters.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Smitty will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016 at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St., with Chaplin Roger Stauffer officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Midland Area Veterans. Smitty's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the American Legion or the family.
